Ford of Britain sales lineup

Ford of Britain reported its best March result ever with sales of 92,467 vehicles in the UK last month, up 14.2% from sales of 80,975 vehicles in March 2016. Ford’s total market share in March was 14.8%, a full 6.6 percentage points ahead of its closest rival.

“Sales gain a massive boost in March thanks to the number plate change and, coupled with the introduction of changes to the Vehicle Excise Duty, this March has seen Ford’s best-ever car and CV ranges record the highest ever level of registrations,” said Ford of Britain Chairman and Managing Director Andy Barratt. “Ford’s long-standing market leadership is being consolidated by the strength of our more profitable retail sales and is testament to our continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technology that customers are choosing.”

Ford’s total car sales for the month were up 19% at 71,837 units, a full 25,273 vehicles ahead of the next closest auto brand. Ford captured a 12.1% retail share in March, up 11.4% year-over-year and 5.3 points ahead of the next brand down the chart.

Ford was led as ever by the Ford Fiesta, which saw a 4.6% year-over-year increase with deliveries totaling 25,428 units in March. The Focus and C-MAX shared the distinction with the Fiesta of leading their respective segments in March, and sales of the Kuga were up 47% year-over-year.

Ford’s commercial vehicle sales were down 0.4% at 20,294 units, but the Transit family and Fiesta Van all led their respective segments.

With the first quarter in the books, Ford is primed once again to lead the industry with sales up 9.3% year-over-year at a total of 137,216 vehicles delivered.
