Ford on Friday released its annual Sustainability Report, which covers multiple areas in which the automaker strived to improve the environment over the previous year or more and the various goals it has for making the world a better place in the future. Where some may continue to scuttle the idea that climate change is a real and present danger, Ford leaves no room for interpretation with where it stands.

“We know climate change is real and a critical threat, and we will continue to work with leaders around the world in support of ambitious global greenhouse gas reduction targets,” said Executive Chairman Bill Ford. “At the same time, we have the opportunity to make real environmental progress as we move into a world of smart vehicles and smart environments, including car sharing, multi-modal transportation and dynamic shuttles.”

The report is offered in an extensive, interactive format and is toplined by a short video entitled “What Sustainability Means to Us.” Highlights from Ford’s environmentally-friendly endeavors of the past year include becoming the first automaker to join the Business Alliance for Water and Climate’s “Improve Water Security” initiative, collaborating with Jose Cuervo to create a sustainable bioplastic using agave plant byproduct, earning a spot on Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Company” list for an eighth consecutive year, investing in sustainable manufacturing initiatives at facilities across the globe, and expanding its Partnership for a Cleaner Environment program to include more partners in its supply chain.

Ford’s efforts have helped to significantly reduce its use of water and creation of harmful emissions, but there is still much work left for it to do.

“We’ve come a long, long way and we’ve got a long way to go,” said Bill Ford. “We believe we have an obligation to leave this world better than we found it.”
