Ford Overall Sales Down in First Half; Ford-Branded SUVs Hit Record High

U.S. News & World Report recently declared Ford its 2017 Best Truck Brand

Ford Motor Company reported sales totaling 227,979 vehicles in June, a decrease of 5.1% year-over-year. Ford brand sales declined 5.4% with 218,704 vehicles sold, and Lincoln sales were up 5.3% at 9,275 vehicles delivered. Retail sales across both brands totaled 152,396 vehicles, flat from June 2016.

Between the Ford and Lincoln brands, car sales fell 23% at a total of 52,731 vehicles sold, SUV sales increased 3.2% at 77,712 vehicles sold, and Ford truck were up 1.2% at 97,536 vehicles sold.

Ford cars were down 24.2% as only the Taurus posted a year-over-year increase. Sales of the Ford GT supercar totaled 9 units, bringing first-half deliveries to 21. Through six months, Ford car sales have fallen 21.8% from the first half of 2016.

Ford SUVs were up 2.9% as sales of the Escape totaled 27,151 units, down 6.4%; sales of the Edge totaled 13,411 units, up 20%; and sales of the Explorer increased 22.7% with 21,304 units delivered. Flex sales also increased, gaining 26.3% with deliveries totaling 2,018 units. Ford SUV sales are also up 2.9% through the first half with a total of 406,464 vehicles delivered.

Sales of the Ford F-Series were up 9.8% as 77,895 trucks were delivered. F-Series sales are up 8.8% through June at a total of 429,860 trucks delivered. Ford truck sales on the whole are up 2.9% with 546,649 vehicles delivered.

Through the first half of 2017, Ford brand sales are down 4.2% with 1,244,765 vehicles delivered. Lincoln sales are up 5.7%, totaling 56,337 vehicles delivered.
