MyEnergi Lifestyle 2.0

You may remember the MyEnergi Lifestyle initiative launched by Ford in 2013 to see just how much money families could save by driving a C-Max Energi and utilizing more energy-efficient household products and appliances.  Looking to upgrade upon the first anniversary of the collaboration’s launch, Ford and its partners (Eaton, Infineon, SunPower, and Whirlpool) have announced MyEnergi Lifestyle 2.0.

Upgrades over the 2013 competition were announced at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including the inclusion of a home battery storage component that will allow homeowners to save money by storing energy all their own for power optimization and use in the event of a power outage.

“The first year of the MyEnergi Lifestyle program showed us homeowners can save money and reduce their carbon footprint by adopting certain energy usage habits,” said Mike Tinskey, Ford global director of vehicle electrification and infrastructure, in a press release. “We’re excited about advancing the program further to include battery storage for even smarter energy consumption.”

And speaking of those first year winners: where are they now?  The Berry and Sattler families were both chosen to receive a Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid along with products that include appliances and solar panels.

In six months, the Berry family has saved $1,200 in fuel costs with their C-Max Energi, expects to save $300 a year thanks to their sola panel system, and will cut more than 25 percent of their energy costs/CO emissions with their new Whirlpool refrigerator.

The Sattler family also expects to save nearly an additional $100 by charging their plug-in hybrid during off-peak hours and figure to save $135 a year through the use of their Whirlpool freezer.
