Ford Performance has made a major impression in 2016, from wins in everything from NASCAR to World Rallycross Championship to the glory of victory over Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For this success, Ford Performance scooped up a pair of awards at the 2016 Professional MotorSport World Expo, taking home the trophies for Motorsport Team of the Year and Motorsport Engineer of the Year.

Tyrone Johnson, Ford Performance’s vehicle engineering manager and AutoCar Engineer of the Year, was on hand to accept both prizes. Johnson helped to lead Ford Performance past the likes of ABT Sportsline, HWA AG, Peugeot Sport, Renault e.Dams, and Team Porsche for the Motorsport Team of the Year award. Ford GT program leader George Howard-Chappell beat out Formula 1 engineers Andy Cowell and Bob Bell and Hyundai WRC’s Michel Nandan for the honor of Motorsport Engineer of the Year.

“2016 has been a great year for motorsport, regardless of which series piques your interest, the diversity of this year’s winners shows that,” said John O’Brien, editor of Professional MotorSport World and member of the 25-person judges panel.

“Ford Performance’s ethic of using its varied motorsport activities to directly market its road cars is something that has to be admired, particularly in this era of increasing regulation,” O’Brien added. “The advances in ‘greener’ technology, and the explosive performance it can deliver is something that has increased in presence in the awards of late, and the coming years are certainly an exciting prospect.”
