Could the Ford EcoSport be one of the four new utilities coming to the US by 2020?

Ford had a relatively quiet week at the North American International Auto Show, particularly when weighted against the previous year’s show reveal of three significant performance vehicles. However, during the automaker’s press conference, CEO Mark Fields indicated that there are plans in the works for four new utility vehicles to be added to the lineup over the next several years.

When asked to elaborate, Raj Nair, head of global product development, specified that these utilities are not updates of current models like the Expedition or Explorer, but rather completely new models to be added to the lineups. It’s widely believed that one of these models will be the returning Bronco.

Detroit Free Press asked Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs if one of these utilities would be an imported Ecosport subcompact, but he only confirmed that Ford is exploring that possibility.

It was also specified that one of these four utility vehicles would be one of the two new Lincoln vehicles due to be released in the next three years. Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra would not comment on speculation.
