Ford announced last month that it would be picking up the torch dropped by Chevrolet to sponsor the 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise, the annual Detroit-based auto history and culture celebration. This year’s event, taking place on August 19th, is anticipated to attract as many as 1.2 million people and 40,000 vehicles of all stripes.

For a 19th year, the Woodward Dream Cruise will host Mustang Alley, which gathers together the finest Ford pony cars of the past 50-plus years. This year, Ford promises that Mustang Alley will be the largest yet and will include examples of the new 2018 Ford Mustang, which is set to hit showrooms later this fall. Also in attendance: the Ford Performance lineup—including the awesome Ford GT—and an appearance by Formula Drift superstar Vaughn Gittin, Jr. Mustang Alley will be located at Nine Mile Road in Ferndale.

“Dream Cruise is all about the sheer joy and freedom of the automobile, and Ford has always celebrated car culture,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford Vice President, U.S. Marketing Sales and Service. “From Fiesta to GT, we’re obsessed with making driving fun and we’re committed to celebrating that passion with enthusiasts of all ages in the birthplace of motoring.”

Other events taking place at the 2017 Woodward Dream Cruise will include a Ford Driving Skills for Life program at the Westborn Market in Berkley, which will also see eBay Motors’ display of a customized 1967 Mustang Fastback. Ford Performance will have an even greater presence at Normandy Plaza, where track-tuned vehicles like the Mustang Boss 302S, Mustang Cobra Jet, and Mustang GT4 will be displayed. Ford Performance vehicles will also be on display in the parking lot of Duggan’s Irish Pub in Royal Oak.

“We are elated to have Ford Motor Company’s commitment to the Woodward Dream Cruise, and we look forward to working together on this annual tradition that puts our region in the national and international spotlight,” said Tony Michaels, executive director, Woodward Dream Cruise. “Ford consistently strives to make the Detroit region stronger, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership.”
