Ford World Head Quarters Pride Flag

Ford’s efforts to support equality and inclusion have helped earn it a spot on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index — and a perfect score of 100 percent — every year since 2004. One of the contributing factors to this is Ford GLOBE, the automaker’s Employee Resource Group for its LGBTQ employees that aims to create an inclusive, safe, and supportive corporate culture. Members of Ford GLOBE were on hand this week for a significant event at Ford World Headquarters, witnessing the raising of the pride flag up the campus’s flagpole for the first time ever.

“These events encompass the importance and value of diversity and inclusion,” said Meeta Huggins, Ford chief diversity officer. “To experience this with the great people who are here today makes for a truly remarkable event. We should all be proud.”

“This is a momentous occasion for us,” said Bill Peters, chair of Ford GLOBE. “We’ve received a perfect score of 100 percent from the Human Rights Campaign for equality and this moment is another step in the right direction to let all employees know from the top down that it’s okay to be who you are.”

Ford GLOBE boasts 11 chapters across the United States, Mexico, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Each chapter gathers together LGBTQ Ford hourly, salaried, retiree, and agency employees. Ford GLOBE’s website also offers tips for how non-LGBTQ employees and individual can be better allies and outlines the importance of being an ally in the face of intolerance.
