Ford Recall for 2012-13 Focus Electric, 2013 Focus ST

Ford is issuing a recall for 6,308 vehicles potentially affected by an issue with headlamps.  The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s report states that the recall is for certain Focus models that utilize High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights.  These models may have dysfunctional front side marker lamps due to a wiring incompatibility, which could lead to decreased visibility during nighttime driving and, thusly, increased risk of an accident.

The models affected are as follows:

  • 2012-2013 Ford Focus Battery Electric Vehicles (with HID headlights) manufactured between September 15, 2011 and May 6, 2013
  • 2013 Ford Focus ST Vehicles (with HID headlights) manufactured between February 16, 2012 and May 7, 2013

Ford will notify owners of the affected vehicles, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge.

The recall is scheduled to begin in mid-August, but owners may contact Ford’s customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332 with questions and concerns or for further information.  Ford’s recall number is 13C04.

Additionally, owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.com.  The HNTSA Campaign Number is 13V335000.
