According to The Detroit Free Press, Ford has relocated more than 1,800 employees from their Dearborn offices to the Fairlane Town Center where they will work out of a 240,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Lord & Taylor and other retailers for the next decade.

The move is being made in order for Ford to continue its decade-long renovation project, which will see more than 70 buildings and 7.5 million square feet of space converted into a new, state-of-the-art Ford Research and Engineering Center and World Headquarters campus. Ford began construction on the former in April of last year and is set to have completed work by 2023; work on World Headquarters is scheduled to begin in 2021 and be completed by 2026.

The redevelopment plan is estimated to cost $1.2 billion.

The Fairlane Town Center was chosen as a means to provide the employees with a comfortable work environment while the renovations are being made while simultaneously helping out the community by bolstering a local business. The area that Ford occupies is now known as the Ford Town Center Office.

“The proximity and design of Fairlane Mall, along with its on-site amenities, support our transformation in offering multiple conveniences for our employees. It is a win-win for us and the community,” said Dave Dubensky, chairman and CEO, Ford Land.

“Retail has shifted so much over the years and Fairlane is no different,” said Fairlane Town Center general manager Rita Nelson. “We have more than 125 stores and restaurants but like much of the industry, we have expanded to include other opportunities.”
