Ford Reveals BraunAbility MXV Wheelchair-Accessible SUV in Chicago
Ford announced today that it has teamed with BraunAbility to build the world’s first volume-production wheelchair-accessible SUV. The new BraunAbility MXV, which was originally announced last summer to coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, builds upon the rugged base of the Ford Explorer and will accordingly be offered in base, XLT, and Limited trims.

“We’re thrilled the Explorer name is connected to such a highly respected brand like BraunAbility,” said Omar Odeh, Ford marketing manager. “Explorer has always been associated with helping people go places they otherwise could not, and BraunAbility MXV furthers that reputation.”
The BraunAbility MXV is being offered with sliding-doors, removable driver and passenger seats, and an automatic and lighted in-floor ramp. These components, as well as a door- and ramp-activating key fob and a sliding shifter and front seat design, make the MXV the comfortable and sophisticated choice for wheelchair-bound drivers.
The BraunAbility MXV is powered by the 3.5-liter V6, which generates 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. It is built at the BraunAbility manufacturing facility in Minamac, Indiana, and will be sold at more than 200 authorized dealers around the country beginning this year.
