Ford Reveals MSA Formula Single-Seat Racer at Geneva

Ford has revealed its MSA Formula single-seat race car at the Geneva Motor Show, which will compete in Formula 4 championships in Australia, Britain, and Spain this year.

Ford’s MSA Formula racer is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine that provides 160 PS (158 horsepower) and is designed by Ford’s UK team. The vehicle uses a carbon fiber monocoque chassis supplied by French manufacturer Mygale.

“The migration to the FIA Formula 4 chassis, which employs the latest carbon fibre technology designed to meet FIA F3 safety levels – and similar to that used in the body shell of the new Ford GT – gives Ford the ideal showcase in which to display its latest technology,” said Gerard Quinn, head of racing for Ford Performance in Europe. “The 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine employed in the new car is the same basic engine a Ford customer will find under the bonnet of their Fiesta ST, tuned to race by our partners Sodemo.”

MSA Formula—which succeeds the Formular Ford Championship—gets underway on April 4th at the Brands Hatch Circuit in West Kingsdown.

“The MSA Formula package is absolutely perfect for the young career-minded driver, proven by the rapid sale of all 32 available cars,” added Quinn. “World champion karters and young drivers from all over the globe, including India, Romania, and the U.S, will participate this year. MSA Formula is set to be the pre-eminent FIA-accredited Formula 4 championship; people want to race in the U.K. because it is a centre of excellence for motorsport and racing technology.”
