Ford and its joint ventures delivered a total of 47,483 vehicles in China last month, a 30% year-over-year decline in sales volume. Changan Ford Automobile (CAF) saw its sales decline 27% at 31,354 vehicles delivered; Jiangling Motor Corporation (JMC) delivered 12,602 vehicles, down 39%; Lincoln sales were down 9% at 2,651 vehicles; and import sales fell 24% at a total of 876 vehicles.

“We saw sales declining in February caused in part by fewer working days, due to a late Chinese New Year holiday this year,” said Peter Fleet, president, Ford Asia Pacific and chairman and CEO, Ford China. “As we reposition our business in China, our key priorities for 2018 are to strengthen our core business, improve our operational fitness and accelerate our strategic shift to capitalize on emerging market opportunities.”

Every vehicle in the CAF lineup saw a double-digit drop in volume in February. The Escort, with 10,946 vehicles sold, both saw the lowest decline at 13% and led the brand from a volume perspective. To date, CAF sales have fallen 28% with 78,242 vehicles delivered.

The Ford Tourneo, with a 56% year-over-year gain, was JMC’s only product to deliver year-over-year growth. Sales of the JMC Pickup totaled 3,753 units and sales of the JMC Light Truck totaled 3,457 units. Through February, JMC’s sales are down 14% at 35,396 vehicles delivered.

Lincoln sales were down for the month, but the brand saw an 8% gain from the Continental sedan and 68% increase from the new Navigator SUV. Lincoln’s sales through two months are up just slightly from 2017 at 7,569 vehicles delivered—Continental sales are up 69%, Navigator sales are up 49%, and MKX sales are up 3%.

Import sales of the Focus ST/RS, Mustang, and Explorer were all down double digits in February and through two months of sales. Ford sold a pair of F-150 Raptor trucks in February, bringing its total for 2018 to five.
