Ford Sales in China Up 11% in April; Lincoln Continues to Grow

Ford Motor Company reported sales totaling 93,967 vehicles in China last month, an 11% increase year-over-year. Every facet of Ford’s ventures in China saw sales increases in April: Changan Ford Automobile sales were up 6% at 62,382 vehicles delivered, Jiangling Motor Corporation sales were up 15% at 25,404 units delivered, import sales were up 21% at 1,648 units delivered, and Lincoln brand sales were up 95% at 4,533 vehicles delivered.

“Ford sales bounced back strongly in April in China with gains across our lineup,” said Peter Fleet, vice president, sales and service, Asia Pacific, Ford Motor Company. “The overall market remains strong and we expect to gain momentum as the year continues as we launch new products and new models to our existing lineup, like the Edge EcoBoost 245 Sport and Focus CTCC Edition.”

Ford notes that SUV and sedan sales in particular helped steer its upward trend in April. Sales of SUVs including the EcoSport, Kuga, Edge, Everest, and Explorer were up 4%, led by a 19% increase from the Edge and 9% increase from the Kuga. Sales of Lincoln-badged SUVs like the MKX and MKC were up 44% in April and are up 50% to date.

Ford Taurus

Sales of the Focus, Mondeo, Taurus, and Escort sedans were up a combined 10% year-over-year, and sales of the Lincoln MKZ and Continental were up 282% year-over-year in April and are up 366% through four months.

Through April, Ford’s total sales in China are down 12% at 349,228 units. CAF sales are down 24% at 230,452 units, JMC sales are up 17% at 96,181 units, and import sales are up 13% at 6,331 units. Lincoln has more than doubled its sales through April 2016 with 16,262 vehicles delivered, up 108%.
