2015 Ford Mustang overview

Ford was one of the lone brands to pull out a positive month in June, selling 1.2% better in the US than it had the year prior. The momentum was spurred on largely by a big month for utilities, the red-hot Mustang, and higher transaction prices.

“Strong retail momentum continues building for our newest vehicles—including F-150, Mustang, Edge, and now Explorer,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, US Marketing, Sales and Service. “The Ford brand’s average transaction prices have increased $2,700 versus a year ago—more than triple the industry average—while our incentives are down, showing how much customers value our investment in new vehicles with the latest technologies.”

Despite sales being down nearly 9%, the transaction prices for F-Series trucks were up $3,600 from June 2014 at an impressive $44,000 per shot. Much of the decline in sales can be attributed to Ford’s current difficulties with keeping trucks on lots for very long; currently, the 2015 F-150 has a turnaround time that’s twice as fast as its competitors, and the automaker has yet to be able to match supply to demand.

The Mustang was up big yet again with its best June in eight years. Ford sold a total of 11,719 pony cars, 53.6% better than the amount sold in June 2014. Through six months, the Mustang has absolutely decimated its competition with a total of 68,290 units sold in the United States, a total improvement of 54.4%.

June was also a big month for SUVs with two new models—the 2015 Ford Edge and 2016 Ford Explorer—both delivering 30% year-over-year sales gains. These two models led Ford’s utilities division to a 10% increase.

Ford Motor Company was up 1.6% overall, thanks also to a big month from the Lincoln Motor Company brand.
