Ford Motor Company reported an 8% year-over-year sales increase in March, moving 254,711 vehicles in the United States compared to 235,929 vehicles in March 2015. Ford brand vehicles accounted for 245,022 units of that figure, a 7.8% year-over-year increase for the brand led largely by upward momentum from utility vehicles and trucks—particularly those with higher price points.

“Customers continue buying high-end SUVs and trucks, helping the Ford brand increase its average transaction prices by more than $1,600 per vehicle in March—nearly double the industry average,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “We have been seeing solid sales momentum in the first quarter across our entire portfolio, with car, SUV and truck sales up across the board.”

While car sales are up 1.4% in the first quarter at a total of 183,723 vehicle delivered, sales were down 1.1% in March. Mustang sales were down only 100 units at 12,563, and sales through three months are up 1.1% at 30,136 total deliveries.

Conversely, the only Ford utility vehicle to see a sales decline in March was the Expedition, down 0.8% at 3,834 units sold. Escape sales were up 8.4% at 28,521 units sold; Explorer sales were up 4% at 21,605 units; and Edge sales were up 48.9% at 14,005 units. Through three months, Ford SUV sales total 188,100 units, up 14.9% from the first quarter of 2015, with every SUV in Ford’s portfolio is selling better in 2016.

Ford truck sales were up 11.4% at a total of 99,861 vehicles delivered. F-Series sales totaled 73,884 units, up 9.1% year-over-year, while Transit sales grew 52.8% at a total of 14,895 units. Through March, Ford’s truck sales are up 9.1% at 248,898 units sold.

Ford brand sales at the end of the first quarter total 620,721 vehicles, up 8.3%.
