Ford’s sales in Europe were up 12% in August as consumer demand for the new Mondeo continued to rise and the market for SUVs and commercial vehicles continued to flourish. In all, Ford sold 69,000 vehicles across the traditional Euro 20 markets, bringing its eight-month total to 838,900 vehicles. August sales were up 10% year-over-year, and cumulative sales are up 10% year-to-date.

“Ford is becoming a much more vibrant, emotionally appealing brand in Europe—from the new Mondeo Vignale, S-MAX and Mustang to our new flagship FordStores opening across Europe—and customers are responding,” said Jim Farley, chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe. “We look forward to building on this momentum with the fully refreshed EcoSport SUV arriving now to the upscale new Edge large SUV early next year.”

Ford’s total market share rose by a tenth of a point as it maintained its standing as the top commercial vehicle brand and the No. 2 total vehicle and passenger car automaker throughout Europe. Sales of the new Ford Mustang topped 8,000 orders through August, making the hot new pony car a primary cause for the uptick in Ford’s passenger vehicle sales.

Ford topped commercial vehicle sales in August thanks to surging sales of the Transit—celebrating 50 years in Europe—and Ranger. Ford’s commercial vehicle share was up 2.3 percentage points for the month and is up 1.7 percentage points on the whole.
