Ford started off 2016 just a bit behind 2015, but remained strong in terms of SUV sales and average transaction prices. The automaker picked up a great deal of steam in the second month of the year, where sales rose 20% year-over-year to an impressive 217,192 vehicles delivered. Retail sales reached an 11-year high thanks to considerable increases in the sales of cars (up 6%), trucks (up 5%), and SUVs (up 22%). Ford brand sales totaled 209,153 vehicles, with Lincoln sales totaling 8,039 vehicles.

Ford’s SUV and truck sales accounted for the majority of all deliveries in February. SUV sales amounted to the best February ever for the company, up 28% at a total of 65,016 units sold. F-Series sales were up 10% at a total of 60,697 trucks sold, good for the best February for F-Series trucks since 2006.

Car sales were up 19% at 63,886 units sold. Impressively, every Ford car except for the C-MAX posted a year-over-year increase, and the C-MAX’s sales were off from the previous year’s total by only six units. Major movers included the Focus (up 32.8%), Fusion, (up 11.9%), and Mustang (up 18.2%).

“We saw a solid industry last month and a strong month for Ford, as customer demand for our newest vehicles—including new high-end series on Explorer and Edge—helped Ford increase its average transaction prices at almost double the industry average,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Offering more high-end options for truck and SUV customers and having the capability fleet buyers value as they are reinvesting in their fleets are strengthening our business.”
