Ford Secures Second-Biggest Sales Month in South Africa
Ford Motor Company saw demand rise for its Everest, Fiesta, Figo, and EcoSport in South Africa last month, which contributed to total monthly sales of 6,482 units and made possible the automaker’s second-largest sales month of 2017. Sales of the Ford Ranger, which once again topped the double-cab and extended-cab light commercial vehicle segment, was also a significant contributor both in terms of domestic sales and exports.

“It is encouraging to see several Ford nameplates achieving some of their best sales for the year, which indicates that it’s not all doom and gloom in the new vehicle market,” said Neale Hill, Director of Marketing, Sales, and Service, Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region.
Ford’s 6,482 vehicles sold was enough to grab a 13.2% market share of the 49,222 vehicles sold in South Africa during the month of August. The Ranger led the way in terms of volume with domestic sales totaling 2,566 trucks and export sales to Europe, the Middle East, and other African markets totaling 3,079 vehicles.
The Everest saw its second-highest sales tally for 2017 with 536 vehicles sold, the EcoSport and Fiesta both ended the month with sales of 1,071 vehicles sold, and Figo sales rose 50% at 530 vehicles. Sales of the Ford Mustang totaled 101 examples, bolstering the performance car’s popularity in the region even further.
“While the economy remains under pressure, the demand from consumers on delivering exceptional value for money continues to grow, and we’ve seen the benefits of this with our Car Month program during August,” added Hill. “However, it also extends to our broader model and marketing strategy in providing customers with outstanding products that are very competitive in terms of price, standard safety, convenience, and comfort features, backed up by superb after-sales service and ownership peace of mind through our comprehensive warranties, service plans, and 24-hour roadside assistance.”
