Ford Set to Expand Employee Charging Network
Ford will be expanding workplace charging stations for employees who driver plug-in electric vehicles, the automaker reports. At present, Ford offers a total of 145 charging stations across 43 offices and manufacturing facilities throughout six states and Canada. Plans call for that number to increase by 20 in the immediate future with further expansion taking place over the next several years.
The announcement coincides with Ford associate director of environmental and regulatory planning Cynthia Williams joining California Governor Jerry Brown and numerous Fortune 500 executives at Drive the Dream 2015.
“Providing a charging network at Ford facilities not only benefits our employees, but builds upon our commitment to the electrification program and developing environmentally conscious vehicles,” said Williams. “Ford is striving to deliver quality products and sustainable manufacturing, and to make eco-conscious vehicles easier to use.”
According to Ford, the use of the 145 charging stations at its facilities has saved upwards of 6,000 gallons of gas and as much as 70 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Ford estimates that at least 350 of its employees use the charging stations, utilizing approximately 92,000 kWh in the process.
