Ford of Germany reported a seven-year high mark for retail market share in September, achieving a 7.8% share thanks to solid sales of passenger and commercial vehicles.

Ford delivered a total of 21,555 passenger cars in September, up 18.5% year-over-year and nearly double the industry-wide growth of 9.4%. Ford commercial sales were up 31.2% with 3,803 vehicles registered.

Ford’s growth on both fronts was led by the popularity of its SUVs. Sales of the EcoSport, Kuga, and Edge accounted for 25.8% of all Ford registrations, and the Kuga alone accounted for 4,341 units.

The Ford Mustang continues to be a big hit in Germany, with sales totaling 7,281 units there since launch. Ford has sold more Mustangs in Germany than it has in its second and third largest European markets—Britain and France—combined.

“I am pleased with these results. They prove that we have made the right decisions in the interest of our customers,” said Wolfgang Kopplin, Managing Director of Marketing and Sales, Ford of Germany…Our models are in good demand and the attractiveness of our brand is increasing, especially for retail and fleet sales,” he added. “These customers are increasingly choosing the Ford brand, which is reflected in our steady and profitable growth.”

Through nine months, Ford has a 7.2% retail market share in Germany and has seen sales rise 11.5% from the pace set through September 2015. Commercial sales are up 25.7% through nine months, and Ford currently controls a 12% market share. In contrast, industry-wide increases for passenger car sales are up 6.1% and commercial sales are up 13.9%.
