Ford Technical Support Center: Helping Develop Race and Performance Vehicles

Last week, a new Ford Technical Support Center opened in Concord, North Carolina. The center features state-of-the-art technology that Ford will use to develop future performance vehicles to improve both the brand’s success in motorsports as well as its road vehicles.

The centerpiece of the facility is a full-motion platform simulator that Ford Racing teams will be able to use to optimize their setups for specific tracks ahead of race weekends—similar to technology used in Formula One. Depending on its success, Ford also plans to use the technology to improve vehicle dynamics of its high performance vehicles like the 2015 Mustang.
Other tools include a kinematics machine, a vehicle center of gravity machine, a coordinate measurement machine, and a chassis torsional twist rig, all of which can be used to perfect both race cars and performance vehicles alike.

“Motorsports and product development at Ford are interlinked, and this new center will house advanced tools that will serve both our race teams and the development of future Ford performance vehicles,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Ford global product development.
