Last month, at the Consumer Electronics Show Asia, Ford unveiled MyEnergi Lifestyle for families in China. MyEnergi Lifestyle, the result of an ongoing collaboration with home appliance, solar power, and power management industry leaders, is a means to both lower families’ energy costs and reduce their carbon footprint through the use of renewable energy, efficient household appliances, and a plug-in vehicle.

“Introducing MyEnergi Lifestyle to Chinese consumers is part of Ford’s effort to rethink how we approach global energy consumption,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO, Ford China. “More than ever, cars are using the same energy sources that we use at home, and it’s imperative that leaders in the automobile, renewable energy and home appliance sectors work together to create a more sustainable tomorrow.”

MyEnergi Lifestyle will up-fit households in Beijing and Shanghai with the tools necessary to reduce annual energy costs by 63% (through a 40% drop in electric bills and 69% drop in gas bills) and a 45% drop in CO2 output. This is achieved with the use of Haier U+ High-Efficiency Smart Appliances, Trina Solar Photovoltaic Power Generation System, Delta Electric vehicle Charging Station, and a brand-new Ford Fusion Energi PHEV.

The project is an extension of the original US-based MyEnergi Lifestyle program, which was formulated by engineers at Ford and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

“When decided to bring MyEnergi Lifestyle to China, we looked at some of the more common differences between American and Chinese families, like their housing and commuting patterns,” said Mike Tinskey, global director of Vehicle Electrification and Infrastructure, Ford Motor Company. “From there, we built on what we learned from MyEnergi Lifestyle in the U.S. and tailored it for China, doing our best to understand how the average Chinese family lives, drives, works and plays, and the associated energy needs.”
