Ford’s May sales figures increased three percent over May 2013’s sales with a total of 254,084 units moved. In particular, Ford is touting its May retail sales success as the company’s best in ten years with 174,889 vehicles sold.

Ford’s May sales success was aided in particular by the Fusion and Escape, both of which enjoyed their best sales months ever.

“Fusion and Escape had their best months ever, which helped us to our strongest May result since May 2004,” said John Felice, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service, in a press release. “Explorer continued to gain ground in the midsize utility segment with its best monthly sales performance in nearly 10 years, while Lincoln MKZ saw its best May ever.”

Ford sold 33,881 Fusions in May, a 14.6 percent year-over-year increase. Ford notes that the Fusion’s best sales month was helped considerably by a 42 percent sales increase in the Western United States.

Even in a down sales month, the F-150 crushes all of the trucks

Surprisingly, the F-Series actually had a down month in May with only 68,520 units sold. May sales allowed the F-Series to cross the 300,000 unit threshold and puts it in prime position to retain its title as America’s best-selling vehicle once again in 2014.
