While the American version of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 has already made its official US debut, the Chinese version of this luxury crossover has just launched overseas and it comes with quite a few notable differences.

American Luxury: Check out these 10 reasons why Cadillac is worth the investment

First off, while the American version carries a starting MSRP of $38,995, its Chinese counterpart will feature a starting price of approximately $56,000. Another noticeable difference can be found underneath the hood. The only engine available on the US model is a 3.6-liter V6 good for 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the Chinese version offers a less powerful 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder rated at 266 horsepower, which could possibly find its way to the US model in the future.

Similarities between the US and Chinese versions of the XT5 include the choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Both models also make use of an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Chinese version of this new Cadillac crossover will also offer GM’s IntelliLink infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. Consumers will be able to enjoy the Apple CarPlay phone integration system. Furthermore, Chinese buyers will get to choose from six exterior color options, which is one less than American consumers get to pick from.

The four-cylinder XT5 will be produced as part of the SAIC-GM joint venture.

“The upscale Cadillac XT5 is targeted at individuals who embrace innovation,” said Wang Yongqing, SAIC-GM President “These are social leaders and professionals who envision new avenues of creativity that demonstrate their success and ambition. The overall design, comfort, performance and technology of the XT5 will meet their desire for a crossover that embodies modern American luxury.”
