Mitsubishi has had a successful year, with some of its best sales numbers rounding out 2017. In addition to their increased sales, hitting their yearly milestone of 100,000 vehicles sold, Mitsubishi has rolled out two new models to dealerships in the last few months: the Outlander PHEV and the Eclipse Cross. As it turns out, changes in their vehicle lineup aren’t the only ones we will see this year.

Tuesday, Mitsubishi announced that Ryujiro Kobashi, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA)’s CEO and President, will step down. Kobashi will remain at Mitsubishi, though, taking on an overseas sales role in Tokyo. Mitsubishi veteran Fred Diaz will step inĀ as Kobashi’s successor in both roles.

“We are thankful to Kabashi-san for his accomplishments during his four years leading MMNA as he was instrumental in supporting the company’s return to profitability,” said Trevor Mann, Mitsubishi’s Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Taking on the fastest growing non-luxury brand in the United States is no small task, but Fred Diaz brings to the table nearly 30 years of marketing and sales experience in the industry. In the next three years, Mitsubishi plans to tackle its Drive for Growth plan. It’s an ambitious plan, aiming for sales numbers of 130,000 vehicles per year – a 30 percent increase.

“The United States is a strategic market for Mitsubishi Motors in our Drive for Growth plan,” said Mann, COO. “With his in-depth background and experience in North America, Fred has a strong ability to proactively engage with Mitsubishi Motors’ dealers and customers as we aim to expand our dealership network, enhance our brand, and drive sales growth.

This change is effective beginning April 1, 2018.
