The upcoming 2016 Chevy Cruze received its official fuel economy ratings from the EPA today, confirming that Chevrolet’s new compact car is capable of up to 35 mpg in city and highway combined traffic.

Of the various trim levels, the most fuel-efficient is the standard 2016 Cruze equipped with a 1.4-liter turbo engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, which returns 30 mpg in the city, 42 mpg on the highway, and 35 mpg combined. Opt for a manual instead, and the car’s fuel economy slash line drops to 29/41/33 mpg in city/highway/combined traffic.

The trim-topping Cruze Premier (pictured) is comparable to the standard model, returning 30/40/34 mpg and offered exclusively with the 1.4-liter turbo and automatic transmission.

The Cruze Limited, which is really just a carryover of the 2015 Cruze, has the same 1.4-liter turbo powertrain and yields 26/38/30 mpg, regardless of transmission. The least efficient option of the bunch is the Cruze Limited with a larger 1.8-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder, which is EPA-rated at 22/35/27 mpg when mated to an automatic and 25/36/29 mpg when paired with a manual transmission.

In spite of its name, the Cruze Limited ECO actually has a lower EPA rating than the standard Cruze. Equipped with the same 1.4-liter turbo and automatic transmission, the ECO is rated at 26/39/31 mpg, while the manual is rated 28/42/33 mpg.

The fact that gas has been comparatively cheap for quite a while now means that fuel efficiency isn’t as big a selling point as it once was, but these are still good mileage numbers that should help make the Cruze competitive among other compact vehicles.
