Chrysler Group LLC already offers a bevy of driver-assist features, but the latest iteration comes in the form of the all-new Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, which will be available on the 2015 Chrysler 200, 2015 Dodge Charger, and 2015 Jeep Cherokee. This system pairs radar and camera technology to better assist drivers in object-detection.

“Chrysler Group takes seriously its commitment to providing innovative and intuitive driver-assistance features to the mainstream market segments,” explained Mark Chernoby, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Vice President, Product Committee. “Accordingly our engineers seek to develop the most effective means to deliver on that commitment.”

Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus works to determine if a driver’s car is going to impact with another vehicle. (Both the radar and the camera must agree that an accident is imminent, thus eliminating the annoyance of false positives with which other automakers’ technologies are plagued.) If a frontal impact is detected, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus automatically pre-fills the brakes while simultaneously alerting the driver in not one but two different ways: an audible warning and a visiual warning on the thin-film transistor display on the instrument cluster.

If, for some reason, the driver does not respond, the new system will deliver brief braking as another alert. If the driver still does not react, the system will apply the vehicle’s brakes steadily as the car slows down, reducing crash energy if the accident cannot be avoided.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 will also feature this new technology.

If the driver does respond, however, but without the right amount of brake-force, the system will trigger Advance Brake Assist, to increase the brake-force necessary. Further, if Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus detects an imminent collision at speeds lower than 20 mph, it might use minimum brake force to bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

This technology joins Lane-Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus with Full Stop, making Chrysler Group vehicles some of the safest out on roadways.
