We’ve all seen those awkward TV ads trying to sell us pharmaceutical drugs that will “change our life.” They typically feature a fictional testimonial from a person whose physical or mental state has been improved by some prescription drug–regardless of its many side effects. You don’t have to ask your doctor to know that these overly serious videos are ripe for parodying.

In a new YouTube ad titled “The Cure for Range Anxiety,” Hyundai Motor spoofs these generic “drug ads” with its own promotion of the 2016 Sonata Plug-in Hybrid.

Check out the clever video below.

“I used to be terrified of getting out here,” the voice-over of a man says as the video opens. “I thought, ‘I can’t go that far. I won’t make it without plugging in.'” No, the speaker isn’t suffering from some uncomfortable medical condition that ails his body.

What this individual has is “range anxiety.”

Luckily, the subject “did some research and found out there is a cure for range anxiety: the Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid.”

Yep, this all an unusual for the 2016 Sonata Plug-in.

The actors, dialogue, cinematography, music, and editing all perfectly parallel the pharmaceutical testimonial ads that saturate daytime television. It promotes its vehicular “cure” for being more capable than other EVs, emphasizing qualities like the 27-mile all-electric range, the lifetime hybrid battery warranty, and 600-mile combined range.

The most entertaining part of the commercial–apart from the clever concept–is the witty fine print that coincides with the video. “Caution: Cross-country skating may cause ridicule from witnesses and oncoming vehicles.” Or, “We do not guarantee you will become a skilled chainsaw sculptor.”

So, bear in mind, that if you buy a Sonata Plug-in, that doesn’t mean you’ll become skilled in nun-chuck wielding, falconry, or cross-country skating…but would you really want to be?
