Future of the Z/28

The 2015 Camaro Z/28

Right now, there are only about 450 Chevy Camaro Z/28 units in existence. Chevy made a very limited run of the special Camaro model for 2014, and even in 2015, the automaker will only sell between 2,500 and 3,000 units. Beyond that, the future of the Z/28 is unknown.

It would make sense, however, for Chevy to continue the Z/28, and that is what Camaro chief engineer, Al Oppenheiser, hinted at when talking with Automotive News. The reason it would make sense is very simple: the 2015 Mustang. Buzz around the all-new pony car has died down following the nameplate’s 50th birthday in April, but you can bet that the Mustang will see a surge in sales when the new model hits the market, and when a subsequent Shelby performance version follows, Chevy will need all the help it can in convincing loyalists to remain loyal and other gearheads to take Chevy’s side.

So could the future of the Z/28 actually go beyond the current, fifth generation and into the sixth generation? Nothing is set in stone quite yet, but it would certainly be a strong move for the Bowtie Brand, in our opinion.

Stay tuned for more updates.
