At the Detroit Auto Show, Nissan has unveiled the Nissan Rogue Sport to the world. It’s a small crossover vehicle that fits right below the Nissan Rogue, Nissan’s #1 selling vehicle in America, in terms of size and price. The Japanese automaker is all about singing this new vehicle’s praises, but it is leaving one key fact out of its press releases: This isn’t really a new car.

That’s not to say that it is not a great vehicle. In fact, when this crossover isn’t masquerading under the Nissan Rogue Sport badge, it is actually one of the bestselling cars overseas in the UK. Yes, the Nissan Rogue Sport is really the Nissan Qashqai vehicle that is manufactured at Nissan’s facilities in Sunderland, UK (for now, anyway). It is not a bad thing that the Nissan Qashqai is coming to America, in fact it is quite the opposite. This model has been put through the ringer by customers in other countries, so it is a much more tested model than something brand new that could have been introduced instead.2017 Nissan Rogue Sport

So, we know it is a Qashqai, but what does that mean for car buyers? Its wheelbase is 2.3 inches shorter than the Rogue, which helps make the Rogue Sport slightly more than a foot shorter than its larger sibling. You might not think a foot is a huge difference, but it’s enough to make the Rogue Sport easier to maneuver into parking spaces and around obstacles. For drivers who are looking for a vehicle with advanced safety features, the Nissan Rogue Sport will be available with Nissan Intelligent Safety Shield technologies including Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Cruise Control, and Forward Emergency Braking.
