Instructions Appraisal

While most of the SP-4003 Car Charger is self-explanatory (standard USB/micro-USB sockets, the familiar 12V plug), some aspects of the product require explanation, specifically the one-button light system. That’s why you need to read the instructions for this device.

The 6-in-1 comes with a small instruction booklet with detailed diagrams, step-by-step instructions for each use, and specification details. Some of the wording in it is awkwardly phrased and may take a couple re-readings to understand, but overall the instructions are helpful and demonstrate how the product works.

Product Quality

The Secur Car Charger is a weighty device despite its size. It possesses a shock-resistant case that–while it does chip upon blunt impact–holds up to the force needed to break a window with it. It’s made primarily with ABS thermoplastic polymer and aluminum.

The product can withstand most heat/cold conditions if left inside the car or used outside. It meets FCC regulations.

Warranty Information

The Secur 6-in-1 Car Charger comes with a Limited 1 Year Warranty that covers defects for one year from the date of purchase.

Overall Assessment: Does It Do What It Advertises?

The Secur 6-in-1 Car Charger has six different functions:

  • Portable cell phone charger
  • Cigarette lighter-to-USB adapter
  • LED flashlight
  • Flashing red emergency light
  • Emergency window breaker
  • Seat belt cutter

Portable cell phone charger

The Secur 6-in-1 charges smartphones using its 2200 mAh lithium battery power bank. When I tested it, it didn’t charge my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini) when my phone was on, despite not running any programs or having the screen illuminated. When my phone was off, it took over an hour to charge the phone. The 6-in-1 Car Charger needs to be fully charged before it’s able to charge your phone; otherwise, your phone will only stay at the same battery level when plugged in (in my case, stayed at 23% battery for 20 minutes before dropping to 22%).

The included USB-to-micro USB cable will fit standard Android phones that require a micro USB hook-up. Apple products should use the charging cable they came with.

Cigarette lighter-to-USB adapter

Another way to charge your phone is using the 1000 mA USB port when the Secur 6-in-1 is inserted into your car’s 12-volt cigarette lighter socket. The 6-in-1 fits snugly in all sockets we tested without wiggling out or being too tight to remove. With the car running, it took a little over an hour to charge the phone when it wasn’t running any programs.

LED flashlight

The flashlight uses a 150 Lumen LED bulb that claims to work for 4 hours on full charge. While it does last that long, the power gets progressively dimmer upon hitting its final hour. The range brightly illuminates objects up to 45-50 feet away before they become too shadowy to see details. The width of the illumination spans about 20 feet in diameter–much wider than one would expect from such a small flashlight.

Flashing red emergency light

The flashing emergency light is a great feature that really works, even during the day. At night, the flashing red light lasts 10 hours with full charge, growing dimmer after 3/4 uses but typically bright and crisp enough to see hundreds of feet away.

Emergency window breaker

We were unable to test this feature of the Secur 6-in-1 but based on other reviews and device regulations that were met, it should break automobile windows with enough force.

Seat belt cutter

The placement of the blade on the device is clever–concealed by a plastic lip to avoid accidental cuts. Yet, you can still firmly grasp it and have enough leverage to cut a seatbelt you’re wearing. We did have trouble getting it to neatly slice through seatbelts (only making a small nick in the material) but with enough leverage and force, the seat belts were able to tear apart.

Final Thoughts

The Secur 6-in-1 Car Charger has a great streamlined design that fits well in your hand and essentially does everything it claims. While its durability down the road may wane and the price tag on it is a bit much, it packs a lot of useful tools into one device. If you or someone you know needs a handy all-in-one pocket device for your car, especially if you don’t have emergency devices, this is a practical way to obtain many useful safety and electronic tools in one purchase.

The Secur 6-in-1 Car Charger is available through Amazon, the manufacturer’s website, and other retailers.
