Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV

This morning in Chicago, Mitsubishi introduced the GC-PHEV Concept to the world. If you’re wondering what the “GC” in GC-PHEV stands for, it’s “Grand Cruiser,” not “Gargantuan Car.” As we’ve seen several times before, PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. With a crossover this big, the electric power will certainly help save gas.

The GC-PHEV is a full-size crossover concept with edgy, aggressive styling and a hybrid drive system that says, “I’m a huge off-road truck that tears up forested trails but also protects baby polar bears from the deadly effects of huge off-road truck-induced climate change.” Like that 7-foot tall, 450 pound football player you knew in high school that wouldn’t hurt a fly and cried at the end of The Notebook.

This sensitive linebacker of a crossover is powered by a supercharged V6 engine and a high-output electric motor that work together through an eight-speed automatic transmission to generate 335 horsepower through all four wheels. The car sports Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control system, which is simply an extremely badass torque vectoring system that maximizes traction in every situation and keeps the GC-PHEV pointed exactly where the driver wants it.

Mitsubishi claims it will go 25 miles on electric power only and will achieve 35 miles per gallon.

The newest Mitsubishi SUV represents the best technology that Mitsubishi has to offer, topped by an Augmented Reality windshield that displays information to the driver in real time. That means the driver can manage navigation, distance to the vehicle ahead, lane departure and blind spot information, and vehicle-to-vehicle communications without taking their eyes off the road.

Tactical Table

The interior of the GC-PHEV brings something new to the table as well. Tactical Table, rather, because that’s what’s located in the center of the four seats, and is what looks to be some kind of huge vehicle-mounted tablet for linking with smartphones and sharing information. Hopefully “Tactical” doesn’t imply it’s to be used for planning drive-by shootings or bank robberies.
