2014 was a monstrous year for General Motors around the globe, resulting in a second straight year of record sales and a total just shy of the coveted 10 million unit mark.

Between its numerous brands around the world, GM sold 9,924,880 vehicles, beating its 2013 global sales record by 2%. Once again, China was GM’s biggest market, with 3,539,972 vehicles delivered in 2014. North American sales totals reached 3,412,714 vehicles on the strength of another huge year in the United States.

“GM is making solid progress and has good momentum. Our customer focus, the new cars, trucks and crossovers we launched in China and North America, technologies like OnStar with 4GLTE and the revitalization underway at Opel helped us achieve another record year, despite very challenging market conditions in different parts of the world,” said GM CEO Mary Barra.

Among GM’s most heralded new launches are the Opel Corsa, Chevy Trax, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon.

General Motors’ performance in China is impressive if only because it shakes out to about one vehicle sold every 9 seconds.  Buick had an impressive showing, delivering 919,582 vehicles over the course of the year, and Chevrolet was up 10% with 717,007 vehicles sold. Cadillac’s global sales also increased 5% on the strength of its performance in China.

In Europe, Opel and Vauxhall accounted for about 1.1 million vehicles, marking its highest sales and market share in three years.

With more product launches ahead—including the beastly Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V, Buick Cascada convertible, next-gen version of the Chevy Cruze and Camaro, and the addition of a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine to the Colorado and Canyon—2015 could mark a first-ever eight-digit sales year for General Motors.
