The new mid-size GMC Acadia carries a starting MSRP of $29,070 and will come with new engine options for the 2017 model year

General Motors on Friday announced a combined $47 million investment into manufacturing operations in Tennessee and Michigan.

According to The Tennessean, GM is investing $27 million into its Spring Hill plant to build the right-hand-drive Holden Acadia. Holden officially revealed the new Acadia last September, announcing that it would be available in showrooms across Australia by 2018.

Spring Hill is also responsible for manufacturing the left-hand-drive 2017 GMC Acadia, as well as the all-new Cadillac XT5 crossover. The addition of Holden production will not create any new permanent positions, but it will allow the plant to retain 215 jobs.

“The team at Spring Hill Vehicle Assembly is proud to add this important model to our range, particularly as it is exclusively an export product. Customers from around the world can enjoy the craftsmanship our Spring Hill team provides,” said Ken Knight, Spring Hill Assembly Plant manager.

Up north, GM will also be investing $20 million into Bay City Powertrain in Bay City, allowing that facility to retain 15 positions and supporting the production of various engine components for ChevyBuickGMC, and Cadillac vehicles.

“This investment reflects the excellent workforce at Bay City Powertrain, whose commitment to building benchmark quality engine components for many of GM’s award-winning vehicles is visible every day,” said Bay City Powertrain Plant Manager John Lancaster.

Bay City Mayor Kathleen Newsham called the announcement “great news for Bay City,” and UAW representatives for both Spring Hill and Bay City applauded the investments.

Both moves are part of a $1 billion investment in American manufacturing announced in January brought about in part by pressure from a racist moron with an Cheeto-dusted potato for a head.
