General Motors Announces New Commercial Link System for Small Businesses

General Motors has announced the launch of Commercial Link, a new vehicle management service specifically designed to enable small businesses to access key vehicle information at any time. Using data provided by the embedded OnStar hardware, the new platform lets business owners see the location, fuel level, miles driven, and maintenance needs of any given vehicle in their fleet.

Commercial Link is available for $10 per vehicle per month on most 2015 model year and newer Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles. Customers with an active OnStar account will have instant access to vehicle information through a website, and a Commercial Link mobile app will be made available this summer for Android and Apple devices.

With Commercial Link, users can monitor a vehicle’s speed, current location or location history, and fuel consumption rates, while also receiving service and maintenance notifications and consolidated vehicle reports for year-end analysis of business expenses.

“Our customers are always looking for ways to increase the productivity of their vehicles, while at the same time saving money to become a better business,” said GM Fleet vice president Ed Peper. “Commercial Link is going to give them an up-to-date component they crave so that they are always in touch with their vehicles’ performance and location, no matter where they are.”

Commercial Link is customizable, as well, allowing users to personalize account dashboards and set up text or email alerts around important items, such as whether a driver is low on gas or needs vehicle maintenance.

Most 2015 model year GM vehicles have also recently been equipped with OnStar 4G LTE WiFi, and are offered with a three month or three gigabyte trial, allowing business owners to use their vehicles as mobile offices. GM has hired a team of Fleet and Commercial Connected Vehicle Specialists to assist solely with the increased connectivity of its vehicles. This team will be responsible for training dealership employees and answering customer questions directly.
