General Motors Canada Sees Best January Sales Since 2008

Despite the cold of January, General Motors Canada got off to a hot start in 2018. The automaker delivered 15% year-over-year growth overall with 16,791 vehicles delivered, retail sales leapt 12.4% year-over-year at 12,185 vehicles delivered, and fleet deliveries totaled 4,606 vehicles for 22.3% growth. This allowed GM Canada to claim its best January sales performance in a decade.

“GM was number one in Canada for 2017 full-year automotive retail sales driven by a strong product portfolio in key Canadian market segments,” said John Roth, vice president, Sales, Service, and Marketing. “We see this trend continuing, as we continue to offer our customers the most dynamic portfolio of cars, trucks, and SUVs that appeal to a wide range of Canadians. 2018 will see that portfolio even further enhanced with new offerings.”

Chevrolet saw its best January at retail since 2008 with 19.9% year-over-year growth, and its total sales were up 25.9% at 10,220 vehicles delivered. At retail, Traverse saw a 179.5% increase in sales, while Cruze was up 30.1%. In terms of total sales, Chevy was led by Silverado at 3,022 delivered.

Buick posted its best January since 2002 at retail with 6.1% growth, led by the Enclave’s 197.4% increase and Encore’s 67.9% increase. Total sales were up 6.2% thanks to a 68% increase from Encore and 194.9% increase from Enclave.

GMC saw retail sales rise 6.5% year-over-year and total sales rise 2.2% year-over-year. Sales of Yukon and Yukon XL were both up triple digits, with the former rising 125.7% and the latter rising 186.3%.

Total Cadillac sales were down 12.5%. Escalade sales were up 17.5% overall and 8.5% at retail.
