Each year, the IHS Markit Loyalty Awards honor those automakers that are able to maintain the largest percentage of repeat buyers. For the second straight year, General Motors took home the show’s biggest award of best “Overall Loyalty to Manufacturer.”

This award is determined from information gathered from each state, such as transaction, registration, and leasing details. Additionally, besides being honored with the top overall award, GM also received recognition for the Cadillac brand, as well as for vehicles like the Chevy Volt and GMC Yukon Denali XL.

The GMC Yukon XL and Chevy Volt earned awards in each of its respective segments, while the Cadillac brand was given the “Most Improved Super Loyalist” award. Super Loyalists are those consumers with histories of purchasing vehicles repeatedly from the same manufacturers. Cadillac moved more than 300,000 units around the world in 2016, which marked the company’s best sales year since 1986.

GM North American President Alan Batey and Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen accepted these awards on Jan. 10th at the Automotive News World Congress. All of the awards given at this show were for the 2016 model year, which represented the sales period from October 2015 to September 2016.

“Loyal customers are the foundation of our brands and they are the strongest advocates we have to attract new customers,” said President of GM North America Alan Batey. “The recognition we are receiving from IHS Markit and the rapid market share growth we have seen in the United States follow years of steady investment in new products and every aspect of the ownership experience, including new dealership facilities, advanced technology and customer service.”
