General Motors has purchased a 303,000-square-foot building in North Austin, Texas, likely planning to use the location to expand its IT Innovation Center, which is located just down the street.

According to BizJournals, the 302,604-sq-ft building located at 13201 McCallen Pass was sold to GM by Karlin Real Estate for an undisclosed sum. GM also leases a 320,000-sq-ft building from Gladstone Commercial Corp that is located nearby at 717 E. Parmer Lane and currently houses the automaker’s IT Innovation Center.

GM currently operates four IT Innovation Centers around the country, including the Austin location and locations in Warren, Michigan; Roswell, Georgia; and Chandler, Arizona. At each location, GM engineers develop new technology for future vehicles.

BizJournals also reports that the new property could result in new jobs in the area, as GM lists 75 jobs available in Austin. The vice president of Karlin Real Estate told BizJournals that GM will not be relocating from the Parmer Lane location, noting that the new building is intended as an expansion of the current IT Innovation Center.
