GM’s August sales totaled 270,480 vehicles between the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC brands, with retail deliveries up 6% for a 1% increase in retail market share. General Motors’ brands also combined for the industry’s highest average transaction price while carrying the lowest incentive percentage.

“GM’s retail sales increase far outpaced the industry in August, and we have grown our retail share for five months in a row compared to last year,” said Kurt McNeil, GM’s U.S. vice president of Sales Operations. “All of the economic fundamentals that we look at, including job growth, disposable income and fuel prices, are in good shape and that should keep sales strong.”

Chevrolet sales were down slightly, but crossovers and pickups offset any major losses. Sales of the Equinox were up 18%, Traverse posted 10,072 sales, Tahoe added 8,221 sales, and the new Trax contributed 5,985 sales. On the whole, crossover sales were at a record high in August and hit a ninth consecutive months of year-over-year gains. Pickups were up 26% thanks to the Silverado and Colorado, both of which contributed to a 16th straight month of sales increases for Chevy Trucks.

Cadillac sales were down 5.5%, with sales of the SRX up 51.9%. GMC was up 3.5% thanks to strong months from the Sierra, Canyon, and Acadia.

To date, General Motors has sold 2,048,537 vehicles in the United States, a year-over-year increase of 3.2%.
