While August was kind of a bummer for The General (with a 1 percent decrease in sales over last August), GM did see strong August 2014 GMC sales figures, which were up 6 percent retail and 10 percent total. In fact, August marked GMC’s best retail month of the year and the best August for the brand since 2007.

Strong performers for August were the Sierra family and the Yukon and Yukon XL. Total sales for the Sierra shot up 10 percent over last year, making for the Sierra’s best month of the year and best August since 2008. It doesn’t hurt either that the Sierra 3500 HD was recently crowned the champion in the Ultimate Heavy Duty Challenge. Meanwhile, the Yukon and Yukon XL saw a sales increase of 53 percent year-over-year, for the Yukon’s best August since 2008.

“Sierra’s continued growth in the marketplace is further proof it has the style, strength and substance our customers both demand in a truck and expect from a GMC,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of GMC marketing. “We’re able to offer these attributes across a wide range of pickup sizes, allowing customers to find a truck tailored to their individual needs.”

GMC’s Denali sub-brand also did exceptionally well, but that’s not the final trick up the brand’s sleeve. GMC is also looking forward to the launch of the 2015 GMC Canyon, for which the brand has already received 14,000 initial dealer orders. The Canyon will arrive in dealerships this fall.
