General Motors Sets New September Sales Record in China

General Motors China’s sales totaled 366,305 vehicles in September, up 6.6% year-over-year and good for a new sales record for the month. Buick, Baojun, and Cadillac all experienced new volume records for the month of September, and SUV sales grew an impressive 63% year-over-year.

Buick was GM’s volume leader with sales totaling 114,500 vehicles, up 5.7% year-over-year. The Excelle GT was the brand’s top-seller with deliveries of more than 44,000 vehicles, while sales of the Envision approached 20,000 vehicles and LaCrosse sales grew 35% year-over-year to surpass 9,800 deliveries.

Baojun’s sales rose 51% with 94,718 vehicles delivered. The Baojun 510 led the way with deliveries in excess of 39,700 vehicles, while sales of the Baojun 310 wagon were impressive in their own right at 13,000 units. The Baojun E100, the brand’s first EV, saw an impressive launch with sales of more than 1,500 units right out of the gate.

Cadillac posted its 19th straight month of double-digit growth with 17,248 vehicles sold, up 37.6% year-over-year. XT5 sales led the way with 49% year-over-year growth and sales nearly totaling 6,300 units. CT6 sales rose 65%, ending the month at nearly 1,200 sedans delivered.

Chevrolet sales were up 11.2% with 57,757 vehicles delivered. Cavalier sales were greater than 20,000 units, cementing it as the bowtie brand’s best-seller, while Malibu sales grew 52% to approximately 14,000 examples sold.

Wuling sales were down 24.2% at 82,082 vehicles sold.

Through September, GM’s sales in China are up 1.1% at 2,748,139 vehicles delivered. Buick leads the way in terms of volume with sales totaling 836,088 vehicles, while Cadillac leads the automaker for growth with a 61.8% sales improvement to date.
