General Motors South Africa posted a 3% year-over-year sales increase in October with 5,301 vehicles delivered throughout the month, good the GMSA’s best October result since 2013. This stands in stark contrast to industry sales in South America falling off by 2% year-over-year. This was spurred on by, among other things, an incentive-laden Red Tag promotion that encouraged South African shoppers to come out in droves.

“Without a doubt, the Red Tag event has once again driven an increased level of retail activity.  Our dealer market share was firmly in the double digits and we expect the trend to continue through the end of 2015. We will carry this momentum into 2016 with a number of additional product launches early in the new year. ”

The uptick in sales is being attributed to strong sales for the Chevy Utility, which accounted for just under 2,000 units and posted its highest single sales month since April 2008. GMSA’s new Isuzu KB was also a strong contributor with 1,376 units sold, up 8.7% month-to-month from September.

Opel also posted significant sales increases with a brand-wide 63% year-over-year gain. Opel’s numbers are expected to rise even more with the launch of the Opel ADAM Rocks in the coming month.
