Mercedes-Benz announced yesterday that it has tapped Gensler as the architecture firm responsible for constructing the new Mercedes-Benz USA headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia. The luxury automaker announced earlier this year that it would be relocating from New Jersey to the Peach State.

The headquarters that Gensler designs will be approximately 250,000 square feet and will hold up to 1,000 employees for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes reports that the project is scheduled to be completed in 2018. Groundbreaking will begin within the first half of 2016.

“We talked to many, many firms and saw some amazing designs, but Gensler was the one that stood out for us,” said Mercedes’ US president and CEO, Stephen Cannon. “They understood our brand and our culture, along with the ambitious goals we have for the next chapter of Mercedes-Benz in this market, and they were able bring that to life in their designs.”

Mercedes had considered about a dozen firms for the job, but Gensler was ultimately the best option. The firm serves more than 2,300 clients across 114 countries.

“We’re proud to help MBUSA realize its vision for a new headquarters in Atlanta,” remarked Stephen Swicegood, FAIA, principal and co-managing director at Gensler’s office in Atlanta. “We’ll draw on our local talent and our global expertise in designing workspaces that both inspire people to do their best work and reflect the character and sensibilities of the local community.”
