The glow-in-the-dark Nissan LEAF is back in the news with this extremely unique marketing stunt: a record-breaking glow-in-the-dark self portrait.

Using the tires as his paintbrush, artist Ian Cook spread the glowing paint over 207 square meters to create the world’s largest glow-in-the-dark painting, confirmed by Guinness World Records. The creation took over 60 hours and used 60 liters of paint.

We recently covered the glowing LEAF when it made a trip to Holland’s glowing Smart Highway. Nissan developed the glowing paint, the world’s first developed by an automaker, to encourage Europeans to charge their electric vehicles using solar panels. In the UK, for example, the panels are subsidized and homeowners can actually make money if they contribute extra power to the national grid.

Much as these solar panels take their energy from the sun, the special paint on this LEAF absorbs UV radiation during the day and can glow for up to 10 hours after dusk.

Who knows what the next stunt is for this unique vehicle. We are actually expecting it to show up to some crazy techno rave in Norway once the weather gets a little warmer, because that’s the next logical step after making the world’s largest glowing painting. Watch the painting in action below:
