GM Adding 1,200 New Jobs to Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly

General Motors has announced that it will be adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs to its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant. This move ostensibly will ostensibly double the plant’s workforce when it takes effect in early 2016.
“This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers,” said Plant Manager Gary West.
The addition of the second shift will bulk the plant’s workforce up to 2,800 employees by the conclusion of the hiring period, which is currently underway. It has been determined that the second shift will be necessary in order to support assumed market demand for its current lineup, which includes the new Chevy Volt and Malibu, Chevy Impala, and Cadillac ELR. Production will begin on the Cadillac CT6 in early 2016.
Detroit-Hamtramck, which has been open for 30 years, has received investments totaling $1 billion over the past six years.
