GM launches Maven car-sharing programGM’s rideshare service, Maven, is continuing to thrive. So much so that it has just entered into an agreement with EVgo to build a fast charging network for its Chevy Bolt EV fleet. The new network will bring hundreds of new charging stations to major Maven hotspots such as Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Austin, Baltimore, and Washington DC.

Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo, expressed confidence in how the partnership will further advance Maven. “EVgo is committed to working with fleet EV owners and operators to make charging quick and easy.  Maven Gig EV Bolt on-demand drivers will have access to a dedicated EVgo fast charging network so they can fully charge in the time it takes to eat lunch.”

This is good news to public charging station users. Because ride-share vehicles rack up a lot of miles, they spend a lot of time at public charging stations to power back up. The new charging stations will cater specifically to these rideshare EVs, which will free up public charging stations so that the general public will have greater access to charge their personal EVs.

The Maven fleet alone has driven 8.2 million all-electric miles, according to GM. Its fleet of Chevy Bolt EVs is also “the largest North American fleet of electric vehicles” at present, as the company articulated.

Considering Maven’s recent expansion beyond the states, in places like Toronto and Australia, it remains to be seen if the enterprise will launch new charging networks in these territories. We await more details about the new charging network in the U.S., as both GM and EVgo unroll this initiative.
