GM Announces $63M Investment in Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant

As part of her announcement at the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday, Mary Barra announced an investment of $63 million in the Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant, which first opened in 2006. Already, the plant boasts a 263,000 square foot campus, but this investment will allow the facility to grow even larger.

For example, the investment calls for a 28,000 square foot expansion for general assembly. An additional 181,000 square feet will be added to the body shop to allow for all-new robotic technology. Finally, there will be a 54,000 square foot addition to the paint shop.
The Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant is currently responsible for building the Chevy Traverse, the GMC Acadia, and the Buick Enclave.
“Today’s announcement is the latest example of our ongoing efforts to strengthen key plant capabilities,” commented GM North America Manufacturing Vice President, Cathy Clegg. “We’re committed to producing the highest quality and safest vehicles in the market, which will help us earn customers for life. This is why facility investment is so important.”
Already this year, General Motors has invested $1.1 billion in US facilities. Since 2009, GM has invested a total of $11.2 billion here in the United States.
