Mark Rainey has been appointed Director, Dealer Development for General Motors.

Today General Motors announced the appointment of Mark Rainey to the position of Dealer Development Director, effective immediately. As part of his new duties, Rainey will be responsible for increasing the number of minority and female dealers within America’s Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac dealer networks.

The 47-year-old Rainey has spent the last twenty years of his career leading dealer development efforts for Nissan North America Inc. He joins GM after having earned the National Association of Minority Dealers’ (NAMAD) Diversity Advocacy Award for his achievements at Nissan. His job history also includes working in a variety of regional sales and marketing assignments, as well as serving as a dealership general manager.

“Mark will help us build on GM’s decades-long commitment to create a distribution network that reflects the incredible diversity of our customer base,” said Eric Peterson, US Vice President of Diversity Dealer Relations, who Rainey will report to as part of his new position.

In addition to his responsibility to advance GM’s national diverse dealer strategy, Rainey will also serve as the company’s liaison to both internal and external advocacy groups, such as the General Motors Minority Dealer Advisory Council, the General Motors Minority Automobile Dealers Association (GMMDA), the Women Dealer Advisory Council, and Rainbow PUSH.

In a press release announcing Rainey’s appointment, GM says that since 1972, it has provided industry-leading training opportunities to minorities to enable them to succeed as dealers. GM was the first automaker in the United States to institute a structured minority dealer initiative, and today boasts a network of 236 minority-owned US dealerships, which collectively employ over 15,500 people and generate $13 billion in annual revenue.
