General Motors Industry Leader Sales Results August 2017

General Motors Canada delivered a total of 28,981 vehicles in August, good for a 28.5% year-over-year increase and the brand’s best overall sales for the month since 2008. Retail sales were strong at 24,872 vehicles, up 36.1% from August 2016 and good for GM Canada’s best retail sales month since September 2008.

“Working with our GM dealers, we are excited to re-establish Canadian retail market leadership from electric vehicles and our new suite of crossovers to GM’s great full-sized trucks,” said John Roth, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing at GM Canada. “Customers are experiencing our new technologies and vehicles and coming back to the GM family.”

GM was also the Canadian auto industry’s top seller both overall and at retail, and it outpaced the total industry growth for the month of 7.1%

“Our momentum is becoming more of a trend, with consistent month-over-month of sales growth,” Roth added. “Customers are looking for more out of their driving experience, and our dynamic portfolio of vehicles, equipped with the latest technologies and eye-catching designs, are well-positioned to meet their needs.”

Chevrolet sales totaled 16,211 vehicles, up 27.1% year-over-year; retail sales grew 31.7% for the Bowtie brand at 13,440 vehicles. Chevrolet posted its best sales for the month of August in a decade.

GMC sales were up 42% overall and 54.7% at retail with respective totals of 9,898 vehicles and 8,599 vehicles. Of note was a 159.8% year-over-year sales increase from Acadia. This was GMC’s best August sales in brand history.

Cadillac rose 9.9% at 1,275 vehicles sold, and retail sales increased 19.3% to 1,246 vehicles. Leading the way for this growth was the XT5, up 74.5% year-over-year, and a 114.3% increase for Escalade. Cadillac also posted its best August sales ever.

Buick was up 8.1% at retail with 1,587 vehicles sold, but fell 4.2% overall with 1,597 total sales. This was still good enough for Buick’s best August since 2005, led by big months for both the Encore and Envision.

Through August, GM Canada is up 18% overall with 205,329 vehicles sold and up 19.1% with 155,625 vehicles sold at retail. All four brands have posted year-to-date growth both overall and at retail.
